Overview

The Certificate of Added Qualifications in Mortality Risk Analytics (CAQ-MRA) is offered to those who are interested in additional training in the quantification of mortality risk. It was created in 2024 as a way to fulfill a desire for such education amongst the AAIM membership while also providing a source of publication manuscripts for the Journal of Insurance Medicine. In order to be admitted to the program, students must have taken and completed the Basic Mortality Methodology Course (BMMC). There are no other restrictions - AAIM membership and Board of Insurance Medicine Certification are not needed. If it has been a long time since the completion of the BMMC, it may be a good idea to request and go over the updated materials. The program consists of a set of materials - videos, readings, etc. - which are all available online. These should be reviewed by the student at their own pace. Upon enrollment, each student is assigned a mentor from the Mortality and Morbidity Committee who can guide them through the program. There is an online examination which seeks to confirm the student's understanding of the didactic materials. To pass the course and obtain the Certificate, the student must pass the examination with a grade of 80% or higher and have their manuscript approved for publication by the Journal of Insurance Medicine. The fee for enrollment is $500 and is not refundable after a mentor has been assigned, except in extenuating circumstances such as illness.
